In the Sandbox #20
Nightwalking prompt, yup, again
Truth is, Iโm afraid.
Wow, that was tough to write. Mostly because fear is a sneaky mofo, only needing the smallest crack in your psyche to pry into and unleash its bitter poison. It thrives on a lot of things, but in my world, silence is its useful aspect. Nightwalking, as Iโve mentioned before, is tongue-tied, vocabulary-less, often just raw and rank emotion.
And weโve visited the โSandboxโ twenty times alreadyโwhile itโs still only July 2022.
Buh it still feels like Iโm the only kid in the playground and that makes me lonely.
So, so lonely.
Itโs eating me up. I donโt know what to do.
Maybe you get this feeling, too?
โScrrrrrrrrrritchโgoes the needle on the record album.
New day, new outlook.
I started Nightwalking into July and turned a corner, oh, about last week. I had a rough July last year, but I wasnโt on Substack then. Heck, I wasnโt even writing to my old WordPress blog Completely in the Dark (CITD). Or my personal journals (yes I keep personal journalsโkept might be the correct tense).
So. I was in a โFALL OUT OF WRITING RISKโ situation. And thatโs never good, at least in the long run, when youโve been a writer your entire life. So, I know what I need to do: I need to get out there again. Get back on CITD (weโre in autumn 1993, with a trip to Los Angeles, in case youโre wondering), carve out morning time (the best time) for journal writing, and before itโs autumn/fall 2022, get going on a new editorial slate/new features of a magnitude I suggested in a previous post.
Substack is still a beautiful, beautiful thing.
And itโs gotten more beautiful in our picturesque little village of StoryShedville, Internet, Earth. We have a ton of new subscribers! Weโre almost at 40 lovely humans in this cohort. If youโve recently subscribed and feel so moved, please chime in down in the comments below. Itโs still free to all (and likely to be for some time yet), so tell us a little about yourself and what led you here.
Now, as weโre In the Sandbox, hereโs the prompt:
What motivates you currently? It could be social justice issues, collaboration and creativity, curiosity, or hell, evenโbeer. Tell us in the comments below.
And thanks for hanging out here.

What motivates me currently?
Time! Less than a month till a new school year.
Time to do in August what I thought Iโd do in June.
Time: my best friend and worst enemy!
