In the Sandbox #17
Nightwalking/Daytalking prompt, which, I realize, is weird
Nightwalking, in my experience, is never done with someone else.
But we can try, canβt we?
I was inspired by Bittersweet, only to the extent that it validated the insanely morose music Iβve listened to for years. Awful stuff, generally, but music Iβll still stand behind, like The Moody Blues song βThe Actor.β
Good one, Justin!
βThank you, Michael.β
(Like that exchange would ever happen. First of many Daytalking/Nightwalking missteps.)
HOWEVER.
I probably first saw the film Melody as an βAfterschool Specialβ when I was a preteen back in the early 1970s, on TV. I saw it again years later after our family moved to βthe farm.β I posted on Completely in the Dark how it affected me then.
While the above YouTube clip/trailer is focused on the sweep of the movieβs story, Iβd like to highlight the music class scene (shown in the screenshot), as it appears in the film, if I can get my own DVD of Melody put up here, with that scene, I willβ¦
Otherwise, todayβs In the Sandbox is about connecting with other people through the bittersweet music that has shaped our lives. While you might think the Bee Geesβ βFirst of May,β from the Melody soundtrack is my choice, youβd be wrong, wrong, wrong. The song Iβm thinking of is actually included in the film in that aforementioned music room scene, and itβs played as a duet (βDaytalking,β if you will) by the two protagonists, Daniel and Melody. Itβs an old melody (pun intended) that my late parents wanted me to learn in French.
Long story there, best saved for another time.
Of course I have a thousand bittersweet music choices, but steadfastly refuse to say anything further until youβyes YOU, dear subscribersβchime in first.
So, here is todayβs prompt:
Pick a bittersweet song from your memory (it could be from yesterday, it could be from a decade ago, it could be from infancy) and tie it to a feeling you had that accompanies your listening to the song. Please be as detailed as you can.
See you in the comments!
